Congratulations, Maria Pineda! The LSC volunteer has recently been named the Boys and Girls Club Youth of the Year in Jersey City.

A junior at Snyder High School in Jersey City, Maria was chosen for – among many accomplishments – her 4.0 GPA, her volunteer work, her multiple extracurricular activities, and her dedication to helping others. She aspires to be a pediatrician.

At LSC, Maria is especially known for how well she works with kids. "She is engaging and relays concepts to children on their level," says Allison Sillence, LSC's associate director of volunteer development. "She is very committed and reliable. She volunteers every Sunday and has not missed a shift yet."
