Stevens SURE House gets lifted to LSC

LSC News

Welcome home! Yesterday, the highly-anticipated Stevens SURE House arrived at Liberty Science Center after a long journey from a storage facility in California.

The project composed of three modules, and was assembled yesterday by a large crane.

The SURE House, an award-winning Stevens Institute of Technology project, represents an ideal home that is sustainable and resilient, and would benefit areas at risk of rising sea-levels and damaging storms.

We are excited to showcase the SURE House right here at the Science Center, though it will be a few more months before guests will be able to view and tour the interior of the building.

The Stevens SURE House is fully solar-powered, a hub for emergency power, and requires 90% less energy use than its conventional cousins. This incredible project was the winner of the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2015. It was built with the purpose of mitigating climate change, while also bracing for its effects.
