This past weekend we had our explosive Retro Science: Oh No! Volcano! and it was a roaring amount of fun. We got to not only teach kids about volcanos, but had them make their own! Additionally, we had our large volcano, Mt. Liberty, make her way back to PSE&G Court to excite and erupt for our crowds both days.
We hope everyone had a blast and will join us again next year for Retro Science: Oh No! Volcano! However, if you cannot wait to for this Retro Science to come back, here are the instructions for our giant Retro Science: Oh No! Volcano!
Make Your Own Volcano
Supplies needed:
One empty 8 fl oz water bottle
One tray
One large mixing bowl
One and a half cups of flour
Two tablespoons of salt
Half a cup of water
One tablespoon of vegetable oil
One tablespoon of baking soda
One fourth of a cup of vinegar
One teaspoon of red food color
One fourth a cup of dish soap
Instructions
Place these dry ingredients in your large mixing bowl: 1.5 cups of flour, 1 tablespoons of salt.
Once all dry ingredients are in the bowl, add all the wet ingredients to the bowl: ½ of water, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
Once your dough is firm but still pliable wrap it around your empty water bottle to make it look like a volcano – make sure to leave the top open hole open.
Once volcano is wrapped in dough place on a tray, so clean up is easier, and pour inside the hole of the bottle/volcano the 1 tablespoon of baking soda.
Finally, pour inside the bottle/volcano: ¼ cup of dish soap, 1 teaspoon of red food color, and the ¼ cup of vinegar.
Stand back and watch your volcano explode!
