Membership Policies

  • Up to two adults living in the same household may be listed on the membership card and account.
  • Membership benefits and membership cards are non-transferable and cannot be shared.
  • You should be prepared to show a photo ID in addition to your membership card to verify your identity.
  • When visiting the Liberty Science Center, at least one member must be present. A member is anyone who lives at the member’s address, this includes a child.
  • Members cannot use their membership admission privileges for group visits, birthday parties or other special programming.
  • A designated caregiver should be named on the account and must present the family membership card and proof of caregiver identity.
  • A second membership card may be provided, upon request to the Membership Department, for membership levels duo and higher.
  • Memberships are not refundable under any circumstances.
  • In special circumstances, members may have to pay admission for specially priced traveling exhibitions
  • All memberships are revocable.  Liberty Science Center reserves the right to refuse or revoke membership and/or deny admission without refund for inappropriate conduct.
  • Complimentary film passes are the responsibility of the member; we are not responsible for lost or stolen passes.

Why should I become a member?
Membership is an ideal way for individuals and families to enjoy Liberty Science Center at a great savings. Members receive additional benefits not offered to the public including unlimited free admission to our exhibitions for one year and discounts for films in the IMAX® Dome Theater.  Exclusive Members Nights give members the opportunity to explore Liberty Science Center after hours featuring special programming.

How much is a Family Membership?
A Basic Family Membership is $140 and includes all membership benefits for two adults and up to four children.  Please see all of our membership levels.

How long does it take to receive my membership card?

Your permanent membership card should arrive in the mail two to four weeks after your membership purchase.  If you purchase membership online, you will receive a receipt which can be shown at the Box Office when you arrive.  If you are purchasing at the Box Office, you will receive a temporary card to use until your permanent card arrives. If you have not received your permanent card after four weeks, please contact Membership at 201.253.1439 or

How do I visit the Science Center without my membership card?

Please bring a photo I.D. which verifies your address on file to the Box Office and we will issue a temporary card.  A replacement membership card may be ordered at the Box Office or by contacting the Membership Department at 201.253.1439 or

Can a caregiver use my membership card to bring my child to the Science Center?

Your caregiver may use your membership when supervising your child’s visit to Liberty Science Center.  At least one member must be present when visiting.  A member is anyone who lives at the member’s address, this includes a child.

What are the Parking Fees?
Parking fees are $7.00 during the day for cars and vans and $5.00 in the evening.  The parking lot at Liberty Science Center is owned by Liberty State Park and operated by Central Parking.  Liberty Science Center receives no portion of the parking fees and the fees go to upkeep of Liberty State Park.

Do Members wait in line at the Box Office?
Members do not have to wait in the general admission queue, however all Members must check in at the Membership Window at the Box Office upon arrival.

Can I visit Liberty Science Center first and then convert my admission to a Membership?

You may apply the exhibition tickets portion of your admission toward a Membership up to two weeks from the day of your visit. You may do this by presenting your receipt at the Box Office or contact Membership at 201.253.1439 or

Can I bring a guest on my membership?
During regular operating hours you can bring a guest as long as one Membership holder is present and the group does not exceed the total number of people covered by your Membership. A Basic Family Membership, for example, covers two adults and four children.  Any additional adults or children need to purchase exhibition tickets.

Do I have to show ID if I am a Member?
You should be prepared to show a photo ID in addition to your Membership card to verify your identity.

Can I lend my membership card to a friend or family member?
Memberships, Membership Benefits and Membership Cards are not transferable and cannot be shared between households. Memberships are valid only for the membership holder whose name(s) appear on the card.  When visiting, one member from the membership address must be present.  Liberty Science Center is a nonprofit organization and relies on the support of its members; transferring membership privileges violates the intention of membership.

Can I use my membership to bring my church, scout troop or other type of group?
Memberships are not designed for groups nor is it transferable to other people who are not listed on your membership.  Special group rates would be applicable in these circumstances.  Please contact Reservations at 201.253.1310 for information.

Can membership privileges be revoked?
We reserve the right, in our sole discretion, to refuse entry and or membership to a member and to revoke a membership without refund if a member behaves in a threatening or abusive manner toward any person or damages or threatens to damage any of the exhibits or abuses their membership privileges.

What are the Tax Benefits?
 Liberty Science Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.  Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.  If you received free film passes with your membership purchase, your membership purchase is tax deductible up until the cost of film tickets:

  • Senior:  $40.50 of the $45 payment is tax deductible ($4.50 is attributable to film tickets)
  • Individual:  $48.50 of the $55 payment is tax deductible ($6.50 is attributable to film tickets)
  • Duo:  $89 of the $100 payment is tax deductible ($11 is attributable to film tickets)
  • Basic Family: $109 of the $140 payment s tax deductible ($31 is attributable to film tickets)
  • Extended Family:  $185 of the $240 is tax deductible ($55 is attributable to film tickets)

Can I use my Membership for entrance to other museums?
Liberty Science Center participates in the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC) Passport Program which means your membership card entitles you to free general admission at more than 270 Science and Technology Centers around the world.  (it does not include museum store discounts and other benefits associated with membership unless stated otherwise)  For a list of participating centers and for admittance policies, please visit ASTC’s website – – (restrictions apply**).  Most participating centers will only allow up to two adults and up to four children even if you have an Extended Family membership with Liberty Science Center.

You must have your valid membership card and a photo I.D. at the time of your visit or you will be denied free admission.

*Liberty Science Center has partnered with five area institutions to offer Members Reciprocal Days visiting privileges on specific days.

Liberty Science Center abides by Association of Science and Technology’s 90 Mile Rule which states:

  1. If your home address is within 90 miles of Liberty Science Center (Jersey City, NJ) and you are a member of another institution, that membership will not be honored at Liberty Science Center.
  1. If you live further than 90 miles from Liberty Science Center, but your membership is with an institution that is within 90 miles of Liberty Science Center, it will not be honored here.
