LSC After Dark goes green for St. Patrick's Day/eco-themed party
Last night, Liberty Science Center was decked in green for our St. Patrick’s Day-themed LSC After Dark party, “Go Green, Get Lucky.” But this was no normal St. Patrick’s Day party!
Being Liberty Science Center, we took the “going green” concept even further and celebrated our planet with eco-inspired activities, experiments, and exhibits. Our labs for this party included a plant DNA extraction lab and an animal adaptation lab.
We also brought out animals from our Eat and Be Eaten gallery to explain the many unique ways that animals live in the wild. After checking out the labs, guests were invited to add a note to our Eco Wall and contribute ideas on how we can all improve the planet.
At this party, we were joined by so many cool vendors, such as TechnoChic, a Jersey City-based DIY company.
All night, the TechnoChic team helped people make their own green and orange light-up bowties and flowers, and encouraged them to reuse their creations at future outings.
Jersey Wine and Spirits returned for another great LSC After Dark event, too. Last month at our “Sexy Science” party, they hosted a tequila and mezcal tasting. This month, they hosted a beer and whiskey tasting.
Over at the bar, we also served delicious (and Instagram-appealing) smoking green beverages!
Since it was a St. Patrick’s Day party, we invited Irish dancers and bagpipers from the Kerri Smith Academy of Irish Dance and the Jersey City Firefighters Emerald Society to perform.
After their performances, our DJ Stadium Status kept the dance floor rocking, along with our emcee Hayoner and our LSC After Dark Ambassador Lynn “ChicpeaJC” Hazan.
The dance floor was extra cool this month because we projected March Madness on several big screens, so the basketball fans in the crowd could dance and enjoy the game all at once!
Keeping with the Irish theme, we played a U2 laser show in our massive IMAX Dome Theater. Our guests also got to be some of the first people to experience our brand new premium exhibition, MythBusters: The Explosive Exhibition.
Since no St. Patrick’s Day party would be complete without a leprechaun, we made sure to have one of those too. The jolly green fella’ traveled throughout the Science Center handing out tattoos and green accessories, reminding people about the importance of reuse and recycling.
