NEW YORK – January 24, 2018 – Ernst & Young LLP (EY) joined forces with Liberty Science Center, one of the world’s leading centers of technology and science, to become a founding sponsor of SciTech Scity and driver of science and technology startup activity in the region.
SciTech Scity (scitechscity.com) is an ambitious and transformative project planned for the 14-acre site donated to Liberty Science Center by Jersey City for development. SciTech Scity is a unique endeavor and aims to build a campus (or "mini-city") for people and companies who come together to invent the future.
As a founding sponsor, EY will continue its leadership in innovation, helping clients navigate the disruptive forces and changing business dynamics driven by technology. EY’s deep experience in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and prestigious network of clients and partners will help bolster the local startup ecosystem while also helping to attract some of the world’s greatest minds to Jersey City. Liberty Science Center will leverage the state-of-the-art EY wavespace™ network to convene clients and thought leaders and facilitate collaboration in the lead up to SciTech Scity’s targeted opening in late 2021.
“STEM is at the heart of the transformative age we are living in. The strong leadership and ambitious plans for Liberty Science Center and SciTech Scity are perfectly aligned to our focus on driving innovation and building a better working world,” noted Steve Howe, EY US Chairman and Managing Partner and Americas Managing Partner. “We are excited to bring EY’s energy to this cutting-edge effort which, ultimately, is about inventing the future.”
The EY wavespace global growth and innovation network brings together multi-disciplinary talents, unique capabilities and IP, in collaborative, interactive working environments. The network focuses on disruptive growth, improvement strategies and technologies that impact specific industries.
Liberty Science Center houses the largest planetarium in the Western Hemisphere and is the most visited interactive science center in the tri-state area. Complementing Liberty Science Center’s existing 300,000 square-foot facility, SciTech Scity will have three additional pillars: the Liberty Science K-12 School which will bring cutting-edge science and technology education to Jersey City; Edge Works, a complete re-imagination of today’s workplace with more than 80,000 square feet of research labs, private studios, open workspaces, and a conference center; and Scholars Village, a purposeful mix of student housing for graduate students in STEM fields and longer-term residences for entrepreneurs, scientists, and families.
The global EY network is one of the largest professional services organizations in the world and is strongly committed to building a better working world with increased trust and confidence in business, sustainable growth, development of talent in all its forms, and greater collaboration.
Paul Hoffman, President and CEO of Liberty Science Center noted, “We've had a tremendous partnership with EY for the past four years. Now EY and LSC will be working even more closely together to build SciTech Scity—and change the world. The corporate culture of teamwork and community at EY is a model for all of us, and a key goal of SciTech Scity is to build a curated community of tech entrepreneurs, scientists, STEM college students, and other forward-thinking people who want to create a better future for all of us.”
“Steve Howe has been a strong supporter of LSC, serving as Corporate Chair of the annual Genius Gala for three consecutive years. At the January 25th VIP official dedication of our Jennifer Chalsty Planetarium and celebration of LSC’s 25th anniversary year, we'll honor Steve as Influential STEM Corporate Leader and recognize EY’s contributions to LSC,” Hoffman added.
