In 79 AD, Italy’s Mount Vesuvius erupted near the rich Roman city of Pompeii. In just 24 hours, Pompeii and neighboring Herculaneum were buried in rocks and ash. The site was lost for centuries and remained almost entirely untouched until 1748. In Pompeii: The Immortal City, discover how the excavation of Pompeii in the 18th century influenced the development of archaeology as a scientific study.
Journey through time into the daily life of a first-century Roman town through original artworks and artifacts from Pompeii, interactive mechanical devices, and multimedia experiences. Hear and feel the roar of the volcano erupting before your eyes! Digital interactives allow guests to play the role of archaeologist themselves.
Pompeii: The Immortal City includes the most recent archaeological finds and scientific research. Dozens and dozens of artifacts are staged in a spectacular immersive installation that recreates the day that Mount Vesuvius erupted.
Pompeii: The Immortal City – opening Oct. 22, 2022 – is a premium exhibition, available with an additional admission fee when you purchase general admission.
Pompeii: The Immortal City was developed and produced by Tempora in partnership with Civita, curated by Giovanni Di Pasquale (deputy director, Museo Galileo, Florence) with the collaboration of the National Archaeological Museum of Naples and the Archaeological Park of Pompeii and distributed by Exhibits Development Group.
